• The easiest way to donate to HYS is to make a donation via PayPal. (Please note that while your receipt will say "MCCNY," your donation goes to support the work of Homeless Youth Services and not the church. If you'd prefer, you can send these much needed items directly to the shelter, either through the links provided or your favorite online retail outlet.)

• HYS Needs for the weeks of 7/14/08-7/20/08 include:
  • Toiletries. We always need: shampoo, deodorant, razors, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Right now, we have a lot of youth in the shelter, and lots of girls and trans women. We're especially in need of toothbrushes, toothpaste, shaving cream, and shampoo. These items are available
    by the case at wholesale prices at dollardays.com.
  • Bedding. We especially need blankets and quilts. I know that sounds odd in
    the summer, but our air conditioning has only one setting - north pole!
  • Heavy Duty Lock ($350) for a new lock for the front door at the Johnson Center. Our handyman tells us that we need a special heavy duty lock to prevent break-ins.
  • Help with a Bill ($165). Desha and Star need $165 to pay their storage bill - they placed most of their belongings in storage while they were in the shelter, got behind on the payments, and now that they have their apartment, the storage place - Storage Plus, in Queens - is holding their stuff hostage and threatening to sell it if the bill isn't paid by 7/15.
  • Bus Ticket. ($171-192). Lakan has family who are willing to take him, but needs a bus
    ticket to Dallas.
  • Technology Needs. We have several technology needs: 1) we need some to help get several (six or so) computers (Mac and PC) set up and operational at the Johnson Center; 2) we need a wireless router for Sylvia's Place; and 3) we need a new version of Excel.
